SUWANEE, GA

FACTS:
Like many Gwinnett County towns and cities, the city of Suwanee has a rich history. Originally inhabited by the Shawnee Indians and then the Cherokee and Creek Indians. The land was ceded to the US in 1817 and 1818. This area was recognized as a town by the federal government in 1838 when a Post Office was established. The advent of transportation, specifically the railroad, was integral to the development of this small town to what it is today. The City of Suwanee (“Suwanee”) was incorporated in 1949. It has grown from 615 people in 1970 to over 19,500 today and has grown three times its original size from 3.1 square miles to 10.8. This growing city boasts a community atmosphere in its Town Center along with historical ties to Old Town Suwanee to celebrate its rich history. You can learn more on this city’s website here.

MY EXPERIENCE:
The journey to explore Gwinnett County has helped me discover some fantastic shops and restaurants. The day I visited downtown Suwanee I didn’t know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of available parking surrounded by a beautifully designed green space with restaurants and shops on the opposing side. After some deliberation on where I should eat lunch, I settled on Brown Bag Deli. Since I had never heard of them or been to one before, I decided to try something new. Their menu had a lot of options and the atmosphere was pleasant. I definitely enjoyed my time there. Afterward, I walked around the green space to see all there was to see - a piece of the Berlin Wall, a trophy arch, and a 9/11 memorial along with a splash pad and outdoor theater.
